Driver's Assistant

The Driver’s Assistant supports the Drivers, Warehouse Hub, ReStores, and organization through a range of functions, including loading, unloading, pickup and delivery of donations.  As an integral impression of the organization, this position is highly visible and works to ensure that donors, clients, and customers, etc. receive a positive experience.

  • Assist Driver in all phases of pickup and delivery operations including executing routes.

  • Pick up donated materials and load merchandise into trucks from residential and commercial customers.

  • Pick up and drop off merchandise to ReStore and warehouse facilities.

  • Pick up and drop off recycling materials to recycling centers.

  • Verify correct product for pickup and inspect all merchandise according to the organization’s policies before loading into trucks.

  • Prepare and provide donation receipts to donors.

  • Pad, stack, and secure items in position on truck to prevent damage during transport.

  • Assist Driver with responsibility of handling and backing up vehicle and other related safety measures.

  • Communicate with dispatcher at each pickup and delivery stop.

  • Maintain inventory of hand trucks, wheel carts, & truck equipment and ensure safety equipment is maintained on a regular basis.

  • Maintain cleanliness and assist with mechanical maintenance of truck.

  • Refuel truck.

  • Assist with maintaining driver log & performing pre‐trip/post‐trip inspections.

  • Assist in warehouse by loading and unloading trucks/trailers, pulling merchandise for customer pickup, preparing merchandise for sale, organizing and stocking inventory, inventory counts, organizing and cleaning warehouse interior/exterior areas including proper disposal of trash or hazardous materials according to federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Operate & maneuver warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, & hand trucks.

  • Provide quality customer service to vendors, donors, and customers.

  • Perform loss and shrinkage prevention processes and controls.

  • Observe safety guidelines, wear the proper safety equipment, and safely operate all necessary equipment.

  • Abide by all company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 1+ years warehouse or driver’s assistance experience preferred.

  • Must be dependable, reliable, and responsible.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Possess tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and perform general labor tasks.

  • Ability to read and interpret written documents including safety data sheets, procedures, manuals, work instructions, orders, and packing slips.

  • Must be able to operate inventory control equipment (i.e. bar coding equipment, handheld devices)

  • Must have or be willing and able to obtain forklift certification.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Must wear required uniform and maintain personal appearance and hygiene by following the organization’s dress code requirements.

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • This position is physically demanding requiring good physical condition, ability to stand for long periods of time, and ability to lift heavy objects of varying shapes, sizes, and weights repeatedly over long periods of time.

  • Must be comfortable on a ladder.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull a minimum of 60 pounds continuously (67-100% of the workday).

  • Continuously (67-100% of the workday) and repeatedly required to climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, balance, bend, feel, fingering/fine dexterity, flex wrist, grasp/squeeze, handling/gross dexterity, reach above shoulder, reach at shoulder or below, hear, talk, turn body, twist body, walk, and stand.

  • Occasionally (1-33% of the workday) required to sit or smell.

  • Near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, field of peripheral vision is frequently (34-66% of the workday) required.

  • Continuously (67-100% of the workday) required environmental conditions: outdoors, dust, exposure to weather, extreme cold, extreme heat, loud noises, mist, moving mechanical parts, toxic/caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and wet/humidity/rain.

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
